The Holy Seraphim Women's Monastery, known to the people as Varvarina Desert, is located near the village of Tatyankovka in the Mariyanovsky District of the Omsk Region. It is one of the youngest monasteries in the region, having received the status of a monastery in 2006.

The founder and abbess of the monastery is Mother Varvara. Over thirty years ago, at the age of 44, Vera Akimovna Gerasimova, having made a vow to God who healed her from a serious illness, went into the Mariyanovsky forests. There she dug a dugout and built a chapel dedicated to St. Barbara the Great Martyr. For thirteen years, she lived in the forest cell, praying and enduring hardships, when her hair froze to the walls from the cold, and the doors remained open for all, relying on God's will. The Lord protected her, and on March 22, 1991, Metropolitan Theodosius of Omsk and Taras ordained her as a nun, giving her the name Varvara. Soon, believers began to gather around her, wishing to help in the construction of the monastery, which laid the foundation for the Holy Seraphim Monastery.

Over time, in addition to the first chapel, a large monastic building with a refectory and a church with two chapels was built: in honor of the icon of the Most Holy Theotokos "Tenderness" and the Holy Royal Martyrs. Here is also the myrrh-streaming icon of St. Xenia of Petersburg. The monastery gradually expanded, and Mother Varvara sought to fulfill her vow to build a temple in honor of the holy blessed Xenia of Petersburg. However, the main temple of the monastery was consecrated in honor of St. Seraphim of Sarov. Mother Varvara noted: "Ksenyushka is modest, she always gave way to others, and this time she gave way to Father Seraphim." The lower chapel of the Church of Seraphim of Sarov was consecrated in honor of St. Xenia of Petersburg.

One after another, wooden chapels appeared in the monastery: in honor of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God, St. Theodosius of Chernigov, the Savior Not Made by Hands, St. Matrona of Moscow, St. Sergius of Radonezh, St. John the Baptist, the prophets Elijah and Enoch, the martyr Eugenia, Patriarch Tikhon, St. Alexander Nevsky, the righteous John of Kronstadt, and the holy martyr Silvester of Omsk, where his relics were kept before being transferred to the Assumption Cathedral.
