Transfiguration of the Lord Church in Parabel

Фото 1
The first church in the village of Parabel was built in 1650, but soon burned down, as did the second one. In 1807, parishioners constructed a wooden Savior Church with three altars. The main altar was dedicated to the Most Merciful Savior, while the other two were dedicated to Saint Nicholas the Wonderworker and the Prophet Elijah.

In 1904, a new wooden single-altar church was built on the site of the old church in honor of the Most Merciful Savior. A reconstruction was planned later, but in 1938-1939, the domes were removed, and in 1945, the church was completely destroyed.

In 1991, the believers of Parabel were given the building of a former video salon at 58 Soviet Street to establish a church. In 2003, the building was finally transferred to the parish's ownership. Gradually, the church was improved, and icons were acquired, some of which were donated by the villagers.

In July 1991, with the blessing of Bishop Tikhon, the Nativity of Christ parish was established in Parabel. For the first six months, priests from Tomsk came to conduct sacraments, and then spiritual care was entrusted to a rector from Kargasok. Hieromonk Theodore (Prokopov) regularly visited Parabel to conduct services. In January 1997, Priest Alexander Freidman became the rector, now a protodeacon.

In June 1999, the construction of a brick church in honor of the Transfiguration of the Lord began. In 2005, the bells were consecrated and raised on the belfry. The construction was financed by the administration of the Parabel district, local entrepreneurs, and the charitable foundation 'Spas.'

By January 2005, the iconostasis was installed, and in February 2006, Archbishop Rostislav performed the rite of the Great Consecration of the new church. In August 2006, eight painted icons were acquired. In October 2010, the parish was re-registered in honor of the Transfiguration of the Lord.

The parish has a Sunday school for children and adults, and a library operates. Social and missionary services are organized, and educational work and youth engagement are conducted. The clergy and parishioners actively participate in the public life of the village.
