The temple is located in the northwestern part of the village of Nyuchpas in the Koygorodsky district and is one of the best examples of wooden cult architecture in the republic. In 1757, Ustyug merchants I. Ya. Kurochkin and A. F. Yurinsky received permission to build a blast furnace on the Nyuchpas River.

On March 12, 1903, the temple was damaged by fire. The residents managed to save the holy antimins, church utensils, liturgical books, and most of the icons, but the building itself could not survive. To avoid losing the opportunity to attend services, the residents of Nyuchpas appealed to the Vologda Spiritual Consistory for permission to arrange a house church in the building of the parish school. After receiving permission, they added an altar to the school, and on November 29, 1903, the new temple was consecrated in honor of Saint Nicholas the Wonderworker. Despite the difficulties caused by the decline of the Nyuchpas plant, the residents hoped to build a new temple in honor of Saint Procopius of Ustyug. Exact data on the construction timeline and the project author have not survived, but it is likely that the church was built during World War I. In the northeastern corner of the apse, there is a pencil inscription about the consecration of the temple in July 1917 in the name of Saint Procopius of Ustyug, which also mentions the builder of the temple, the Nyuchpas master I. Perevalov.

During the Soviet era, the temple was closed, plundered, and destroyed. Since 2017, its restoration has been underway.
