Church of the Intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Zlynka

Фото 1
The Zlynkovsky district attracts attention with its historical peculiarity: here, old-believer and new religious traditions intertwine. This confrontation is reflected in the architecture of local churches. On the site where once stood the prayer houses of the old-believer non-priests, now stands the Church of the Intercession. In the mid-19th century, one of these prayer houses was transformed into the Church of the Intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary, consecrated as a church for the same faith. By the early 20th century, the church had fully formed, acquiring additional extensions and domes, representing a wooden building clad in planks.

After the revolution, the church was closed and used as a grain storage facility. During the occupation, German-fascist troops, seeking to win the favor of the local population, allowed services to be held in the churches of the district. The residents of the Zlynkovsky district once again had the opportunity to attend worship services. After the liberation of Bryansk from the occupiers, the church was not closed, and since 1943, services have continued there.

The three-tiered iconostasis, made in the second half of the 19th century in an eclectic style, is adorned with icons from the 19th and early 20th centuries. The central part above the royal gates is highlighted by icons with an arched top and a concave bottom. The tiers are separated by cornices supported by fluted columns. The iconostasis is completed with three icons in exquisite pseudo-baroque framing.
