The Church of the Intercession of the Holy Virgin in the village of Zakharovo was built in the early 20th century, but it was closed during the Soviet era. The building gradually fell into disrepair, and only in 2001 did restoration work begin.

The village of Zakharovo was founded on the right bank of the Olshanka River in 1770 and was named after the first settler, Zakhar. A hundred years later, about a thousand people lived here.

The year 1908 was a poor harvest year. Peasants prayed for rain, but the sun scorched the crops. At a meeting, it was decided to build a church so that prayers would reach God more quickly. In August 1911, a wooden church was erected, named in honor of the Intercession of the Holy Virgin.

During the Soviet era, the church was closed and partially destroyed.

The summer of 2001 was significant for the church. A convenient road was laid to it and the cemetery. On June 20, 2001, the residents of Zakharovo gathered to discuss the restoration of the church and began collecting donations.

In the summer of 2002, local residents cleaned up the trash in the church and on its grounds.

On October 14, 2003, a service was held in the church in honor of the Intercession of the Holy Virgin, the patronal feast of the village. Despite the lack of glass in the windows, many people came to the service to witness the revival of the church.

On December 20, 2003, the glazing was completed, and in the following years, interior finishing work was carried out.

On November 6, 2011, Archbishop John of Belgorod and Stary Oskol consecrated the restored church.
