The Church of the Intercession of the Holy Virgin in the village of Shopino, known as the warrior church, is an Orthodox center of the memorial complex "Fire Arc, Belgorod Direction." Its construction began in honor of the victory in the Patriotic War of 1812 and lasted five years, finishing in 1817.

During the Great Patriotic War, the church suffered greatly. On July 6, 1943, 40 German tanks broke through the defense of the Voronezh Front in the area of the village of Shopino. The church, marked on the military map as "height 225.9," housed the observation point of the commander of the battery of the 932nd artillery regiment, Senior Lieutenant M.F. Tulchinsky. He called down fire from two artillery divisions on himself, sacrificing his life to destroy enemy tanks. Despite significant damage, the church withstood.

In 1979-80, before the 1980 Olympics, there were two attempts to blow up the church, as it was visible from the railway and the road along which the Olympic flame was carried. However, the attempts were unsuccessful.

In the 1980s, chalk was mined almost up to the walls of the church, but its foundation endured this trial as well. During the restoration of the church, an artificial hill had to be created.

Today, the church has been fully restored. On August 5, 1999, the day of the liberation of Belgorod, Archbishop Ioann of Belgorod and Stary Oskol consecrated the Church of the Intercession of the Holy Virgin.

In the village of Shopino, there is also a spring "Krinitsa," near which a chapel and a bathing area have been built. The water temperature in the springs consistently remains at 6-8°C.
