Before you is the Church of the Intercession of the Holy Virgin in Rubtsov, founded in 1618 by the decree of Mikhail Romanov in the royal estate of Pokrovskoye-Rubtsovskoye, now in the Basmanny district of Moscow. This church is often called the Dinner Church and is the only monument dedicated to the final overcoming of the Time of Troubles.

After the end of the Troubles and the ascension of the Romanovs to the throne in 1613, the invaders did not cease their attempts to conquer Russia. In 1618, Polish King Wladyslaw IV gathered a 20,000-strong army, including the regiments of Khodkevich and the Zaporozhian Hetman Petro Sahaidachny, and headed for Moscow.

Attempts to stop the enemy with a 7,000-strong vanguard near Serpukhov were unsuccessful. The numerous army defeated the Russians and continued its advance. The invaders, led by Sahaidachny, captured the Don Monastery, Khodkevich took Tushino, and Wladyslaw moved towards the Kremlin.

The situation seemed hopeless, and Mikhail vowed to build a church in case of victory. A miracle occurred: Wladyslaw was defeated at the walls of the Kremlin by Dmitry Pozharsky, who led the defense of Moscow. Seeing the king's defeat, Khodkevich turned towards the Trinity-Sergius Lavra, where he suffered defeat and fled. Sahaidachny also quickly left Moscow, later offering his service to Mikhail, but was rejected.

After this victory, the Troubles were finally over, and the power of the first sovereign from the Romanov dynasty was strengthened. Mikhail kept his word and laid the foundation of the church in his first residence, in the village of Pokrovskoye-Rubtsovskoye, which belonged to Protasiy Vasilyevich Yuryev, then to Nikita Romanovich Yuryev, and later to Fyodor Nikitich Romanov, Mikhail's grandfather and father.

The construction of the wooden church began in 1619, but soon the sovereign decided to replace it with a stone one, which was done. The construction of the current church was completed in 1627. During the years of Bolshevik power, the church suffered greatly, the bell tower was demolished, but it survived and continues to attract thousands of Christians and tourists, which is yet another miracle in the history of Russia.
