The Pokrovsky Church in the village of Pokrovka was built in 1856 and is a monument of architecture. It was closed and looted in 1928.
In 1955, services resumed in the church. In 1957, the abbot of the partially destroyed Pokrovsky Church, after the battles at Kursk, became Hieromonk Gennady, known in the world as Grigory Ivanovich Davydov. He began the restoration of the church, which had been used as a warehouse and then as a village club during the years of persecution.
In 1985, Father Gennady accepted the schema with the name Grigory and became the spiritual father of the Kursk and Belgorod diocese. He passed away in 1987 at the age of 76 and was buried behind the altar of the Pokrovsky Church.
In 2008, a monument was erected on the parish grounds. For the centenary of the elder, a major renovation was carried out in the church, the iconostasis was replaced, and reconstruction was completed.
