Church of the Intercession of the Holy Virgin in Pochapovo

Фото 1
The stone single-altar Intercession Church was built in the center of the village in 1867 with government funds amounting to 10,700 rubles, thanks to the efforts of the rector. It replaced a wooden church erected in 1770. This ancient cult structure made of rubble stone was destroyed by partisans during combat operations in 1943.

The unique church composition in the retrospective-Russian style was fully restored in the early 2000s. The central part of the church is a two-light square covered with a metal roof with four slopes, proudly bearing the traditional five domes. On the eastern side, a rectangular altar apse with a rounded exedra adjoins the main volume, while on the western side, there is a small refectory and a two-tiered transverse narthex, above which rises a tent-shaped bell tower with an onion-shaped top.

The main entrance to the church is highlighted by a four-columned porch with a gabled roof, adorned with a triangular pediment, under which an image of the Mother of God is placed. The polychrome masonry of the walls is framed by wide pilasters, cornices, inter-floor belts, and window sill plinths. The area around the church is surrounded by a stone fence with a corner cylindrical tower and two-tiered Holy Gates.
