The Church of the Intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Marmyzhy was built on the site of the former Intercession Church, which was destroyed by the Bolsheviks in 1959.

In 1996, at the initiative of a native of Marmyzhy, renowned sculptor Vyacheslav Mikhailovich Klykov, and with the support of local residents, a cornerstone cross was installed and consecrated at the site of the destroyed church. Two years later, construction of the church began based on Klykov's design, funded by him personally. The church is adorned with 48 sculptural representations of significant saints. The iconostasis, donated by benefactors, was made and painted in Vologda, while several icons of saints were created in the Kursk icon painting workshop.

Vyacheslav Klykov did not live to see the completion of the construction. He passed away on June 2, 2006, in Moscow and was buried in Marmyzhy, next to the church he recreated. Near his grave are the burials of the first builders of the former church, Yegor Ivanovich and Alexey Ivanovich Seledyevkin. Klykov created a new tombstone for their graves in the form of a pedestal and a cross on a base.

The church was consecrated in October 2006 by Archbishop German of Kursk and Rylsk, after which the first Divine Liturgy was held there.
