The Church of the Intercession of the Holy Virgin in the village of Kustovo was built in 2005-2007 on the site of a 19th-century church that was destroyed during World War II.

Originally, the church in Kustovo was founded in 1881 and was built over ten years, after which finishing works continued for another two years. The church had two altars: in honor of the Intercession of the Holy Virgin and Saint Tikhon of Zadonsk. It functioned until the beginning of collectivization but was closed in 1928 and used as a grain storage facility for the collective farm. Church utensils were taken away, and icons were destroyed.

During the war, the Intercession Church was partially destroyed, dismantled, and its bricks were used to build sheds.

For more than half a century, there was no church in the village. In October 2002, the parish was revived, and the former school gym was converted into a church. Worship services resumed in Kustovo. Soon, the construction of a new church began, with the participation of all residents.

On April 7, 2005, the cornerstone of the new church was laid. On October 14, 2007, on the day of the Intercession of the Holy Virgin and the village holiday, Archbishop Ioann of Belgorod and Stary Oskol consecrated the newly built church.

The church houses the altar cross from the destroyed church.
