In the early 20th century, the modern urban-type settlement of Korenevo was just a railway station of the same name and a few houses for railway workers. In 1903, a church was built at the Korenevo station in honor of the Intercession of the Holy Virgin.

The church was closed and looted in the 1920s. The last rector was Priest Viktor Karakulin. Before the occupation by German troops, the church building housed an elementary school. On September 6, 1943, during the retreat, the building was mined and blown up by order of the German command. Soviet authorities allowed the residents of Korenevo to dismantle bricks and building materials for their own needs. Only the building of the former psalmist's house, also built in 1903, survived. After the war, this house housed a Pioneer House, and later a music school.

Since 1989, the house has been converted into a church, and services have been held there since then. Private residential buildings now occupy the site of the blown-up church. On October 14, 2003, on the feast of the Intercession of the Mother of God, Metropolitan Juvenaly of Kursk and Rylsk consecrated the site for the construction of a new church at the intersection of the streets of St. Seraphim of Sarov (formerly Builders) and 70 Years of October.

On September 8, 2005, thanks to financial support from JSC "Russian Railways" and donations, the first stone was laid, and construction of the new church began.

The construction lasted almost four years. On May 31, 2009, Archbishops German of Kursk and Rylsk and John of Belgorod and Starooskolsky consecrated the new Intercession Church, and the first Divine Liturgy was held there. All services now take place in the new, well-equipped church.
