The Church of the Intercession of the Holy Virgin is located in the village of Kleymenovo, formerly known as Pokrovskoye or Skorodnoye. It occupies an open space in the center of the village and, despite its modest height, stands out against the landscape. The first mention of the village Skorodnoye dates back to 1594-1595 in the census book of the Oryol district, compiled by clerk Leontiy Sofonov and scribe Dementiy Yakovlev. The parish in this village has been known since the late 16th century.

In 1749, Pyotr Afanasyevich Shenshin built a stone church with one altar in honor of the Intercession of the Holy Virgin at the village cemetery, which has not survived to this day. At this same cemetery rest the poet Afanasy Fet's cousin, Vasily Petrovich Shenshin, his father Afanasy Neofitovich, and his mother Elizaveta Petrovna Shenshina (née Charlotte Fet). According to data from 1896, the church was already significantly dilapidated.

The church was built with funds from parishioners and benefactors and was consecrated on September 30, 1890. The bells were temporarily placed in a wooden bell tower set on four pillars, as a stone bell tower had not been constructed. In 1892, Afanasy Fet was buried in the crypt beneath the church, and in 1894, his wife Maria, née Botkina.

Since 1897, a one-class church school operated at the church, with O. V. Galakhova, the niece of A. Fet, as its guardian.

The church was closed in the 1930s and 1960s. In 1991, it was returned to the community of believers and restored according to the project of architect M. B. Skorobogatov.
