The Church of the Protection of the Holy Virgin, also known as Pokrovan kirkko, is an Orthodox church located in the Munkkiniemi district of Helsinki. It is part of the Patriarchal Parishes in Finland of the Moscow Patriarchate.

The Pokrov parish was founded by Anna Dmitrievna Pugina in December 1925 in Vyborg and was officially registered as a private religious organization on December 23, 1926, by the decision of the State Council of Finland.

From 1926 to 1939, the community held services in a home church set up in Anna Pugina's house in Vyborg on Luostarinkatu street. The church was consecrated on January 2, 1927, by Metropolitan Evlogy (Georgievsky), and the first rector was Archpriest Grigory Svetlovsky. Jurisdictionally, the community was part of the Western European Diocese of the Russian Orthodox Church and was under the jurisdiction of the Ecumenical Patriarchate from 1931 to 1945 along with Metropolitan Evlogy.

On December 29, 1935, the parish was visited by Bishop Sergei (Korolev) of Prague, who ordained Deacon Grigory Sandin for the community.

During the Soviet-Finnish War in 1939, the church's property was evacuated, and in 1940, the Protection community resumed services in Helsinki.

On October 12, 1945, Metropolitan Grigory (Chukov) reunited the community with the Moscow Patriarchate.

In 1951, thanks to donations, the community acquired a plot with a house in Munkkiniemi. Under the project of architect Ilmari Ahonen, the construction of the church began, which was consecrated on February 1, 1953, in honor of the Protection of the Mother of God. Artist Yuri Repin performed the carving for the iconostasis. In 1960, the number of parishioners was 1,663.

In May 1974 and September 1981, Patriarch Pimen (Izvekov) of Moscow held services in the church during visits to Finland.

For a brief time in 1978 and 1979, the rector of the parish was Archimandrite Longin (Talypin).

Since 1999, the rector has been Archpriest Viktor Lyutik, and by 2014, the number of parishioners was 388.

On April 23, 2009, the parish was visited by Svetlana Medvedeva, the wife of the President of Russia.

As of 2020, there were 399 registered parishioners in the Protection parish.
