The construction of the Church of the Intercession of the Mother of God began in June 1996 at the site where a burned-down post office once stood, initiated by the parishioners. At that time, services had already been held for two years in a former bookstore. The head of the district administration, Vladislav Dmitrievich Sokolov, actively participated in the construction, effectively acting as the foreman. The head of the regional administration, Yegor Semyonovich Stroyev, allocated funds for the purchase of bricks. The Dolzhanskaya gas compressor station provided building materials, equipment, and financial assistance. All parish funds and donations from parishioners also went towards the construction. At the end of July 1996, Archbishop Paisiy of Oryol and Livny consecrated the cornerstone and foundation of the church. In 1997, on the feast of the Intercession of the Mother of God on October 14, the church was consecrated, and the first liturgy was held.
