The memorial church for soldiers who fell during the capture of Kazan in 1552 is dedicated to the Uncreated Image of the Savior. This stone structure was built in the 19th century in memory of the soldiers who died during the siege and capture of Kazan. The church is one of the oldest monuments in Kazan and military memorials in Russia.

Until 1918, at the entrance to the church, to the left of the doors, there was an image of Ivan the Terrible, and to the right, Emperor Alexander I. On the left wall of the church was an icon of the Lord Savior, who presents His image to the young Tsar Abgar. This symbolic image implies the young Russian tsar who accomplished a great deed under the protection of the Uncreated Image of the Savior. Beneath the church is a vaulted underground passage that spirals around the building. On either side of the tomb, above decorations in the form of military armaments, were inscriptions: "Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends" (John 15:13) and "The beloved and beautiful, inseparable, were not parted in their life and in their death; swifter than eagles, stronger than lions" (2 Samuel 1:23).
