Archangel Michael Church in Podgornoe

On October 18, 2018, Oleg Polukhin, a deputy of the Belgorod Regional Duma, visited the Valuysky District to discuss the restoration of the Archangel Michael Church in the village of Podgornoe.

Participants in the discussion included: Oleg Polukhin, chairman of the regional Duma committee on education, youth policy, and media; Alexey Dybo, chairman of the Board of Trustees and head of the Valuysky District administration; Anna Bezgodkova, deputy chairman of the Board of Trustees and head of the Nasonovsky rural settlement administration; Father Vitaly Mirshavka, secretary of the Board of Trustees and rector of the Nativity of Christ Church in the village of Rozhdestveno; as well as business leaders, entrepreneurs, and parishioners of the church.

The Archangel Michael Church was built around 1911 from red brick and had a bell tower. Inside, there was a richly decorated gilded iconostasis, with the main icon being that of Archangel Michael. The village's feast day, "Mikhailov Day," is celebrated on November 21 and continues to this day.

Oleg Polukhin, addressing those present, emphasized the importance of reviving spiritual life and connecting with Orthodox values. He noted that the restoration of the Archangel Michael Church is a noble cause that will become a spiritual heritage for future generations.

Alexey Dybo added that everyone can contribute to the church's renovation according to their capabilities. Larisa Sedina, deputy head of the construction, architecture, and housing and communal services department, presented the project documentation for discussion by the Board of Trustees. Father Vitaly Mirshavka proposed ideas for the church's improvement.
