Korazhma, although a young city, has a history that dates back to 1535. It was then that monks Longin and Simon from the Vologda monasteries founded a chapel on the banks of the Korjazhemka River in honor of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker. Subsequently, the Nikolo-Korjazhemsky Monastery was built here.

Until 1665, all the buildings of the monastery were wooden. In 1671, a stone five-domed cathedral with a bell tower was constructed, dedicated to the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary. In this church, the relics of St. Longin Korjazhemsky rested in a tomb adorned with gilded carvings and covered with a shroud embroidered with the image of the saint. In 1746, another stone Spasskaya church was erected and consecrated.

In 1764, the monastery was granted III class status. A new stone Nikolayevsky cathedral was laid on August 21, 1904, and consecrated on October 13, 1913. In the early 20th century, the archbishop's chambers, bell tower, and three stone churches were located outside the monastery's fence, among which the Nikolayevskaya church stood out. Its two-story building with an octagonal bell tower and spire dominated the area.

In 1918, the Korjazhemsky Nikolsky Monastery was closed, despite the attempts of its inhabitants to preserve the monastery as a 'labor commune.' Some monks were shot, while others were exiled.

For decades, the monastery buildings were used for agricultural needs and gradually fell into disrepair. Some structures were lost forever.

On June 30, 1989, the city council decided to transfer the remaining buildings of the monastery to the Orthodox community. On September 14, 1990, Bishop Panteleimon of Arkhangelsk and Murmansk solemnly consecrated the restored church of St. Longin Korjazhemsky. Today, an Orthodox parish operates at the site of the monastery, and the restoration of the churches continues. A well dug by Longin himself was found, over which a chapel was built. In 1998, the local museum returned relics to the community, including the hair shirt and chains of St. Longin. Thanks to the prayers of the great servant of God of Arkhangelsk land, the monastery he founded continues to live and be revived.
