Kazan Icon of Mother of God Church in Tomarovka

Фото 1
The Kazan Icon of Mother of God Church in the village of Tomarovka, consecrated in the second half of the 19th century, is a monument of architecture.

In the 19th century, there were three stone churches in Tomarovka: the Church of Archangel Michael, built in 1841 in the center of the settlement, the Church of Nicholas the Wonderworker, constructed in 1859 with the funds of Princess Natalia Saltykova-Golovkina, and the Church of the Kazan Icon of Mother of God, erected in 1869.

In the late 1940s, the Church of Archangel Michael was destroyed, and a House of Culture was built from its bricks. The same fate befell the Nicholas Church. However, the Kazan Church survived and continued to operate. In the 1950s and early 1960s, during the rule of N.S. Khrushchev, there were attempts to close Orthodox churches, but the Kazan Church withstood, and services in it did not cease.
