The church in honor of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God in Budyonnovsk is led by the archpriest Georgy Bakirkhodzhaev, the dean of the Orthodox churches of the Budyonnovsk district and the rector of the Kazan church. The prayer house, dedicated to the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God, was built with funds from the community in 1895 and consecrated on October 22, 1898.
The church building is wooden, standing on a stone foundation, and the roof is covered with iron. It is the only church in the city that was not destroyed. Perhaps it is precisely the wooden structure of this church, unlike other churches in Budyonnovsk, including monasteries, that has better withstood the test of time. It is symbolic and providential for the believers that in June 1995, on the centenary of the Kazan church in Budyonnovsk (formerly the city of the Holy Cross), the city was attacked by Chechen terrorists, leading to the tragic death of about 140 people, including women and children. The blood of innocent victims washed the place where Orthodox shrines were once destroyed and desecrated.
