The wooden Church of the Nativity of the Mother of God in the village of Nikiforovo, Velsk district, was built between 1765 and 1770. In 1846, it was replaced by a stone building funded by the merchant Platon Vasilyevich Bokovikov. The altars in the church were consecrated in honor of the Nativity of the Most Holy Theotokos, Saint Nicholas the Wonderworker, and Saint Dimitri of Rostov.

The second chapel of the Nativity of the Mother of God parish was built of wood with funds from local peasants Stefan Zenzinov and Afanasy Kuklin. It was consecrated on October 18, 1882, in honor of Elijah the Prophet. The building was an octagon on a square base with a pentagonal altar and a small refectory, topped with a pear-shaped dome of the Vazhsky type.

During the Soviet era, the stone church of the Nativity of the Most Holy Theotokos was looted and eventually destroyed to its foundations. The wooden Elijah church was used for economic purposes and partially remained until the 2010s, although the dome collapsed in the late 1990s and early 2000s. In recent years, the building was abandoned and in a state of emergency until it burned down on June 19, 2016. A cross has now been erected in its place.
