The church in honor of the prophet of God Elijah, with chapels dedicated to Saint Nicholas the Wonderworker of Myra and Saint Mitrophan of Voronezh, was laid in 1775. It is commonly referred to as 'Nikolo-Peskovskaya' or 'Nikola na Peskah'.

A year later, a chapel in honor of Saint Nicholas the Wonderworker was built. The name of the church is associated with the sandy soil in this part of the city. The main church, dedicated to the prophet Elijah, was consecrated in 1790. The refectory and bell tower that exist today were erected in the mid-19th century after a major fire in 1858 that severely damaged the church.

In 1874, a new iconostasis was installed in the church, and by the end of the century, it was enclosed with a fence. In the 1930s, the church was closed, and after the war, a sewing factory was located in its building. In 1995, the church building was returned to the faithful, and since then, regular services have resumed. The church is located at: ul. Normandiya-Neman, 73 a (formerly Nikolo-Peskovskaya ul.).
