The brick church of the Icon of the Mother of God 'Sign' is located in the Zhukovo area of the Starooskolsky district in the Belgorod region and belongs to the Belgorod diocese. The church was founded in 1766 and consecrated in 1778.

The village of Zhukovo emerged in the 17th century and was part of the Starooskolsky district of the Kursk province until 1928. The residents were evacuated due to the flooding of the Starooskolskoye reservoir.

According to the book 'Lists of Settlements of the Russian Empire', published by the Central Statistical Committee of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in 1859, the village of Zhukovo by the Gerasim River had 70 households, with 341 men and 420 women living there, and had an Orthodox church and a fair. The village was located on the Voronezh postal road between Stary Oskol and Nizhnedvitsk. The exact date of Zhukovo's founding is unknown, but it is over 300 years old.

The construction of the church of the Icon of the Mother of God 'Sign' began in 1766, and the consecration took place in 1778. It is known that in 1908, priest Sergey Klevenksy and psalmist Mikhail Kozlovsky served here. After the revolution, in the late 1930s, the church was converted into a grain storage facility. Initially, it was planned to use only part of the church, but it was later decided to occupy it entirely. In 1939, believers appealed to Mikhail Kalinin to return the church, but the request went unanswered. During the war, the building survived, and in 1943, it had a rector, Father Alexander Gerasimov.
