The stone Sign Church in the village of Tazovo, located in the Kursk district of the Kursk province (now the Zolotukhinsky district of the Kursk region), was built on July 30, 1850 (August 12 in the new style) thanks to the efforts of parishioners and donations from outsiders. Initially, the church had one altar, but by 1917 there were two: in honor of the Sign of the Most Holy Theotokos and Seraphim of Sarov. Currently, the church has three altars, including a third dedicated to Saint Nicholas the Wonderworker. The church owned 39 desyatins of land, including estate and arable land. On the church estate, parishioners built a house for the priest, as well as a church watchman's house, a wooden forge, and a stone bell tower.

The Sign parish included residents of two large villages: Tazovo and Zhernovets. In Tazovo, there were 467 houses near the church, where 1,659 men and 1,642 women lived. In the village of Zhernovets, located three versts from the church, there were 416 houses with 1,651 men and 1,489 women. In total, the parish had 3,170 men and 3,131 women, as well as 883 households, of which 7 were inhabited by clergy and 876 by peasants. Due to the large size of the parish, the church staff included two priests, one deacon, and two psalmists. A starosta was also mandatory.

In the 1930s, during the collectivization period, a wave of repression swept across the country. Not only prosperous peasants suffered, but also clergymen, who were considered "enemies of the people." In 1937, Father Fyodor, the parish priest of Tazovo, was arrested. After his arrest, the church buildings were destroyed, the temple was desecrated, frescoes and paintings were damaged, bells were thrown down and broken, and icons and church utensils were taken away by residents. The church was planned to be blown up, but the chairman of the collective farm, Andrei Pavlovich Sedykh, prevented this by convincing the authorities to use the building as a grain storage facility due to the lack of suitable premises.

In early 1942, the Sign Church in Tazovo reopened. With God's help, a priest named Polievkt was found, which translates from Greek as "much-desired." The church was restored, and services resumed.

Since then, the Sign Church has almost never closed, except for a period in the 1960s when it was not operational due to the absence of a priest. From 1969 to 1988, the rector was Archpriest Valery Mikhailovich Pashkov. During this time, ongoing repairs were carried out, and in 1987, major renovations of the church's exterior began.

Since 1988, the rector has been Mitropriest Peter Grigoryevich Pashkevich. During this time, major repairs were completed, a house for the priest and an outbuilding were built, the land was arranged, and in 2008, a bell tower was installed. Regular cosmetic repairs are conducted. In 2016, the church was reconsecrated by Metropolitan German of Kursk and Rylsk.

Since 2007, a Sunday school has been operating at the church.
