The Church of the Icon of the Mother of God 'Sign' is located in the city of Mtsensk, which is the administrative center of the Mtsensk district in the Oryol region.
This brick two-story building in the classical style was constructed between 1813 and 1821 above the southern Holy Gates of the then-Petropavlovsky Monastery.
The main part of the church is a pillarless square topped with a low rotunda and dome, and includes a refectory. The second altar is dedicated to the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul.
The church was closed in the 1920s and subsequently underwent significant changes. During the Soviet era, the building was used as a sports school and later as workshops. In 2004, the church was returned to the community of believers, and regular services resumed on July 18 of the same year. From 2004 to 2011, restoration work was carried out in the church.
