The Church of the Icon of the Mother of God 'Sign' is located in the village of Bokatovo in the Babyninsky District of the Kaluga Region. It was built in the second half of the 18th century with funds from Colonel Naryshkin, who also owned the neighboring estate.
The church building is designed in the late baroque style and included a refectory and a bell tower. The Icon of the Mother of God 'Sign' is one of the most venerated in Russia. Inside the church, there was a rich iconostasis, described as follows: 'An iconostasis of azure color with images in silver-plated frames. In the center was the image of the Savior with the Gospel, and to the left, the image of the Sign of the Mother of God. The Mother of God and the infant had silver-plated crowns.' Above the iconostasis was the crucifixion of the Lord. The church had an altar dedicated to Saint Paraskeva the Great Martyr, with a small but also rich iconostasis.
In the 1930s, the church in the village of Bokatovo was closed, and the bell tower was destroyed. Today it is completely abandoned and gives a depressing impression.
