The stone Sign Church was built in 1804. There was also the Resurrection Church in Bessonovka, constructed in 1908. Both churches were completely destroyed during the Soviet period.

According to data from 1908, there were two stone churches in Bessonovka: the Sign Church and the subsidiary Resurrection Church, built in 1804 and 1903 respectively.

The parish of the Sign Church included the hamlets of Aleksandrovka and Nikolaevka, with a total of 2,645 parishioners. Four zemstvo schools operated in the parish.

During the Soviet era, the churches were destroyed. Until 2000, the church was located in a repurposed building, until the construction of a new church based on the design by architect A. V. Bersenev was completed.

On August 6, 2000, the new church of the Icon of the Mother of God 'Sign' was consecrated by Archbishop John of Belgorod and Stary Oskol. The main relic of the church is an icon with a particle of the relics of St. Moses the Ugrian.
