The Ivanovskaya stanitsa was founded in 1794 as one of the first 40 kuren settlements of the Black Sea Cossacks in Kuban, and in 1842 it gained the status of a stanitsa. According to legend, its appearance on the map of Kuban is linked to the decision of one man. The eighty-four-year-old Karp Nasvit brought 364 settlers to the shores of the Sukhoy Liman and, climbing a high hill, drove his saber into the ground, saying: "Here we will live!" The exact words are not as important as the result. The Zaporozhian Cossacks settled in this place, dug a moat for protection against enemies, built houses, and erected the first wooden church with great diligence, as true children of God. In 1854, a church was built in honor of the icon of "All Who Sorrow" on the site of the Tenging regiment. Church-parish schools operated at the churches. The Orthodox church "All Who Sorrow," built in 1854, was renovated again at the expense of the parishioners in the 1990s.
