On July 26, 2016, a new church was consecrated in the Novgorod Kremlin in honor of St. Vladimir the Equal-to-the-Apostles. It is located north of St. Sophia Cathedral, near the site where the church of St. Vladimir stood until the 17th century. The consecration was performed by Metropolitan Lev of Novgorod and Staraya Russa, after which the first Divine Liturgy took place in the church.
The new church, dedicated to St. Vladimir the Equal-to-the-Apostles, is situated in the Novgorod Kremlin, next to the Vladimir Tower. Its construction was decided in 2015 in honor of the 1000th anniversary of the death of St. Vladimir and in memory of the church destroyed by the Swedes in the 17th century. The construction of the new church became a communal effort.
