Chapel of Saint Gennadius of Constantinople in Valuiki

Фото 1
The chapel in honor of Saint Gennadius, Patriarch of Constantinople, is located on the grounds of the Valuiki city cemetery.

On August 23, 1998, the foundation stone for the chapel was laid, and on April 1, 2000, Archbishop John of Belgorod and Stary Oskol consecrated it.

Saint Gennadius became the Patriarch of the Constantinople Church in 458 during the reign of Saint King Leo the Great. To combat lawlessness and false teachings in the Church, he convened a Local Council, which condemned the heresy of Eutychius and prohibited simony, that is, the ordination for money. Saint Gennadius emphasized that candidates for the priesthood should be well acquainted with the Holy Scriptures and know the Psalter by heart.
