The chapel in honor of the holy righteous prince Alexander Nevsky was built on the southern outskirts of Oryol, in quarter 909, at the site where heroic battles for the city took place in October 1941. Here, a group of paratroopers from the 201st brigade, showing incredible courage, held back the advance of German tanks, which allowed for the establishment of a defensive line to protect Moscow. This battle became key to the Soviet army's victory in December near Moscow, and over 600 paratroopers lost their lives. The chapel serves as a memorial to all the soldiers who fell during the days of the city's occupation. Construction began in October 2004 and was funded by donations from the residents and organizations of Oryol.

The idea to build the chapel arose thanks to members of the 'Search' team from the Eureka Young Technicians Club, led by Vyacheslav Anatolyevich Ivanov. The initiative was supported by local residents and veterans of the Great Patriotic War. In 2003, one and a half thousand signatures were collected in support of the project, and by the end of the year, their number reached three thousand. Three design institutes, including 'Grazhdanproekt' and 'Giproniselprom', developed the chapel's project for free. The initial estimated cost of construction was about one million rubles, but only a little over ten thousand was available in the charity account.

In the fall of 2004, the first piles were driven in for the construction of the chapel, which was built entirely with public funds. In 2006, the residents of Oryol donated 288 thousand rubles, while legal entities contributed 72 thousand. Construction was completed in May 2007, and in the winter of 2008, the chapel was painted. On April 25, 2008, on Great Friday, a new bell was installed on the chapel. Inside the chapel, the names of the fallen soldiers are engraved on the walls, and it is expected that it will house the Books of Memory for the residents of Oryol who fell in the Great Patriotic War and in local conflicts in recent years.
