In the summer of 2012, with the blessing of Archimandrite Epiphanius, who cares for the Greek and Russian-speaking population of Limassol, the non-profit organization "Native Island" organized an Orthodox children's camp for children from Russian and mixed families. For two months, the children not only rested and sunbathed but also studied the Gospel, the lives of saints, prayed, and watched Orthodox and patriotic films. The success of this experience led to the decision to organize the educational process within the framework of the Law of God for both children and adults. Children participated in extended day groups, while adults attended classes in the morning and evening. At the beginning of September 2012, a moleben was held with the participation of Metropolitan Athanasius of Limassol.

Every month, more people gathered around "Native Island," and a month before Christmas 2013, an appeal was sent to the bishop requesting the opening of a new Russian parish and the appointment of priest Father Vladimir Byrka. This letter was signed by 103 people.

In January 2013, Metropolitan Athanasius of Limassol decided to open a new Russian-Greek parish in honor of Saint Luke (of Crimea), where services would be conducted in the old style in Church Slavonic in accordance with the traditions of the Russian Orthodox Church. The construction of the Church of Saint Luke (of Crimea) was also commissioned in the Agia Fila area.

In the spring of 2015, the Cypriot parish received a blessing for the construction of the Church of Saint Luke, and the Russian-Greek parish was given the old church of the Apostle Barnabas in the Kato Polemidia area of Limassol for restoration and services. After restoration, the church will be consecrated in honor of Saint Blessed Xenia of St. Petersburg, and the parish received a new patron, Saint Xenia of St. Petersburg.

Currently, services at the parish of Blessed Xenia of St. Petersburg are held irregularly in the church of the Apostle Barnabas in Kato Polemidia.
