This church and its parish were popularly known as the Afanasievsky. This name has been preserved thanks to Saint Athanasius, Patriarch of Alexandria, in honor of whom the previous parish church was named, which existed until the Time of Troubles. However, there is no information about this church left in the memory of local residents or in church documents. It is only known that in the 17th century, a wooden Annunciation church stood in its place with two unblessed chapels on either side of the altar, located "on the settlement behind the middle slope." Next to it was the "warm Flora and Lavra," built in 1736 through the efforts of priest Andrei Lvov and consecrated under his brother, priest Alexei Lvov, in 1744. The ancient Annunciation church was located near the current city garden, where a stone monument now stands. The church existed until the early 19th century when it was replaced by a stone church.

The modern Annunciation church was built in 1819 by Karachev merchant Nikolai Shestakov. In 1849, a stone bell tower was erected next to it, but separately. The church has one dome and a warm refectory, spacious enough for parishioners. It has three altars: the main one in honor of the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary and two chapels in the refectory, in honor of Saint Mitrophan of Voronezh and Saints Athanasius and Cyril of Alexandria. In 1867, the refectory was extended, and the old iconostases were replaced with new ones. In 1876, the church was surrounded by a stone fence with an iron grille thanks to the efforts of church elder merchant Nikolai Khimchenkova. In 1902, elder merchant Mikhail Smirnov at his own expense arranged arches in the refectory, installed new iconostases, decorated the interior walls with sacred paintings, and added a new stone porch with carved oak doors. The repairs cost 9,000 rubles. Among local relics, the icon of Saints Athanasius and Cyril is especially venerated, distinguished by its antiquity, possibly equal to that of the non-existent Afanasievsky church. On the feast of Saint Athanasius on May 2, many people gather at the church, especially peasant women with infants, whom they commune during the early and late liturgies.

The church land comprises 7 desyatinas and is located 7 versts from the church. The clergy staff includes a priest, a deacon, and a psalmist. There are no church houses or state salaries. In the parish area, at the station "Belye Berega" of the Riga-Orlovskaya railway, there is a literacy school opened in 1899 by stationmaster Adolf Kirshtein. The school is funded by state and private means and teaches 25 people. However, the rural population of the parish, due to its remoteness from the city and dispersion, remains without the enlightening influence of the school. Until 1877, the parish of the Annunciation church consisted only of townspeople, but in 1876, villages were added to it: Filosof Zavod, Babinka, Krucha, Nepryakhino, Veresha, Zhuravki, Zheltovodye, and Pastushki. These villages are located at a distance of 12 to 22 versts from the church in different directions.
