Once in this area, there were two churches: the Protection Church in the village of Priznachnoye and the Dmitrievsky Church in the village of Krasnoye. However, both disappeared during the turbulent times of the 20th century when there was a struggle against religion.

The idea to build a new church came from the local residents. The cornerstone was consecrated in Priznachnoye in the year of the 1025th anniversary of the Baptism of Rus and the 70th anniversary of the Battle of Prokhorovka at the Third Field of Battle of Russia.

It was decided to erect a church in honor of the holy warrior prince Dmitry Donskoy, who led the Russian troops at Kulikovo Field, known as the First Field of Battle. On June 1, the church celebrates its patronal feast in honor of the holy prince, the patron of the church.
