Orthodoxy has always been the foundation of life and worldview for the Don Cossacks. Since ancient times, the villagers built churches and chapels together, sparing no expense. In these churches, they celebrated holidays, prayed before military campaigns, married newlyweds, baptized children, and buried the deceased. These places were centers of not only spiritual but also social life for the Cossacks.

The single-domed stone church of Archangel Michael in the village of Veshenskaya was consecrated in 1786. Since then, the parish, thanks to the efforts of local residents, has become richer and more adorned. To this day, there are records that the church housed relics such as the Gospel of 1744, the service Gospel of 1701, the 'Triodion' of 1695, the explanatory Gospel of 1707, and a silver chalice with utensils from 1777.

Old newspapers preserved interesting testimonies about the life of the parish. In 1891, the newspaper 'Don Speech' reported on an 'initiative that was new and highly sympathetic.' It was about the establishment of a library of agricultural books in the Veshenskaya Archangel Church, which was to be managed by the local priest. Also, during the height of the famine due to the poor harvest of 1891, the rector and the elder of the second church in Veshki collected 158 rubles and 36 kopecks for the starving in Russia, of which 68 rubles were collected from donations and the rest from church officials.

The Civil War did not spare the Don steppes. The Red Terror and persecution of priests affected Veshenskaya as well. In 1930, the Trinity Church was destroyed to the ground, and the Archangel Michael Church was turned into a grain storage facility. Local old-timers claim that the authorities planned to blow up the church, but it was defended by the writer Mikhail Sholokhov, who was born in Veshenskaya. Later, he donated personal funds for the heating system in the church.

During the Great Patriotic War, the church building was severely damaged due to an air raid. A bomb from a German plane destroyed the altar and the bell tower but miraculously did not explode and fell onto piles of grain.

The church parish was restored only in 1946, but the condition of the church left much to be desired. Only since 1991, through the efforts of local priests and believing villagers, the Archangel Michael Church began to be gradually repaired. The roof of the main dome was covered, and later an altar was constructed.

In 1999, the rector of the Archangel Michael parish, Priest Vladimir Polyakov, laid the foundation for the bell tower, and its construction began in the spring of 2000. Three years later, the village heard the sound of the bells for the first time, and by 2004, the main restoration work was completed.

Today, the Archangel Michael Church in Veshenskaya plays an important role in the lives of local residents. A Sunday school operates in the parish, services are held, and social ministry is carried out by the parishioners.
