The stone church of Archangel Michael with a bell tower, built at the Malyutin Orphanage and children's shelter, was erected with funds from the Malyutin Bank in 1899 or 1889. The main altar of the church is consecrated in honor of Archangel Michael. The chapel on the right is dedicated to the equal-to-the-apostles Prince Vladimir, and the one on the left, to the chief apostles Peter and Paul. The clergy lived in rented apartments, and the priest received a salary of 400 rubles a year, 40 rubles in interest from the capital, and 240 rubles for housing.

In 1900, the church's income amounted to 1349 rubles 32 kopecks in cash and 50 rubles in tickets. The tickets contained 2125 rubles, of which 787 rubles 50 kopecks belonged to the church, and 1337 rubles 50 kopecks to the clergy. The church operated a children's shelter and an almshouse, funded by the Malyutin Bank. Since 1872, a primary school of the Empress Maria's department, also supported by the bank, operated at the orphanage. In 1914, 39 boys and 52 girls were enrolled in the school.

At the beginning of the 1881-1882 school year, a fourth practical class was opened at the Malyutin School, where students engaged in the production of agricultural machines and tools for 8-9 hours a day. The machines were created based on drawings from local residents or the agricultural museum and included hand threshers, seeders, sorters, and other devices. Six machines were presented at the All-Russian Exhibition in Moscow. The school received many orders for the repair and modification of agricultural machinery, as well as for turning, locksmith, and carpentry work.

The church was closed in 1928 and used as a warehouse. In May 2006, the church was transferred to the Kaluga Diocese. Under the guidance of Archpriest Alexander Kadin, restoration work began. Wall partitions and ceilings were dismantled, asphalt that replaced the floor was removed, and brick window closures were taken out. Trees that were damaging the foundation and roof were removed from outside the church. During the Soviet era, doorways were cut into the church for truck access. By May 2007, restoration work on the central dome and part of the roof was completed, and a large gilded cross was installed.
