In Crimea, many Christian churches have been preserved, among which stands out the ancient Greek church of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Today we will tell you more about it. This church was built thanks to the efforts of the local Greek community, which has long lived on the peninsula. Erected at the turn of the 8th-9th centuries, it originally resembled the Greek church of Saint Demetrius of Thessaloniki, located in the Quarantine area. Later, the church was rebuilt and acquired its modern appearance.

The Greek settlers spared no expense in construction, and the church turned out to be so magnificent that it was visited not only by Greeks but also by Russian military personnel. Interestingly, the famous Russian commander Prince Vasily Mikhailovich Dolgorukov, who expelled the Ottoman troops from the peninsula, attended a service here. After a thanksgiving service, the city was returned to its historical name, but few know about this even among the locals. However, this does not diminish the architectural and historical significance of the church of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary. The church turned out to be not only beautiful but also sturdy, having survived many trials and remaining to this day.

Unfortunately, during the Soviet era, the church was closed, but it was not demolished like some other churches; instead, it was converted into a gymnasium, which operated until the 1990s. Then the Ukrainian authorities returned the church to the Orthodox Church, it was restored, and once again opened its doors to the faithful. Today, it is one of the most visited places.
