The State Central Theatre Museum named after A.A. Bakhrushin is a unique phenomenon in Russian culture. Its history began in the mid-1890s with a private collection of the famous Moscow industrialist and philanthropist Alexei Alexandrovich Bakhrushin.

Today, the museum's collections hold over one and a half million exhibits, including costume and set design sketches by outstanding scenographers, photographs and portraits, stage costumes of great actors, programs and posters of performances, rare publications on theatrical art, decorative and applied art items, and much more. The theatrical collection is one of the most valuable museum collections in modern Russia, featuring works by masters such as Bakst, Golovin, Kuznetsov, Dobuzhinsky, Korovin, Yuon, Rerikh, Tatlin, Ekster, Rodchenko, Popova, and others. Various exhibitions are regularly held in the main building of the museum and its numerous branches.
