On the central street of Rostov-on-Don, Bolshaya Sadovaya, a striking building stands out with the inscription 'Hotel Moscow'. It was constructed in the late 19th century by renowned architects Alexander Nikanorovich Pomerantsev and Nikolai Nikitich Durbakh.

The Hotel 'Moscow' was completed in 1896, and its construction cost 400 thousand rubles, a significant sum for that time. The hotel became one of the best in the city, offering rooms in various price categories, accommodating both wealthy guests and less affluent residents of Rostov.

The four-story building is designed in the eclectic style, popular among Rostov architects of that era. The symmetrical facade is divided into five vertical sections. The central part was originally adorned with a large balcony awning that covered the sidewalk at the main entrance, but it has since been lost. The third and fourth floors in the center of the facade are united by a portico with columns and pilasters of the Corinthian order, and the facade is topped with an attic and a pediment.

The first floor is finished with rustication. The windows vary in size and shape depending on the floor: on the first floor, large display windows; on the second and third, rectangular windows; on the last, windows with semi-circular tops. The design of the window openings also varies: on the second floor, small pediments; on the third, cornices in the center and small pediments on the sides; on the fourth, arched designs.

After the arrival of Soviet power, the hotel continued to operate but gradually fell into disrepair. During World War II, the building was heavily damaged, and it was not until the 1960s that it was restored, losing many elements in the process, including the famous balcony over the sidewalk.

In the 2000s, the hotel closed. The building housed offices, but in 2007, a major fire occurred, after which it was not used. In 2013, restoration was planned to restore the building's function as a hotel, but these plans were not realized. In 2019, rumors of demolition emerged, but there is hope that this unique monument of the Rostov-on-Don era can be preserved. For now, the former fashionable hotel looms on Bolshaya Sadovaya in a state of neglect.
