The Gorshechensky Local History Museum was established by the decision of the district executive committee. In 1992, it was awarded the title of "People's Museum," and since 2006, it has been part of the Kursk Regional Local History Museum.

The museum's collections hold about 3000 exhibits, and its exhibition area is 238 square meters. The museum's exhibition covers the history of the Gorshechensky district from the late 18th century to the present day.

One of the interesting exhibits is a working 19th-century loom, where every visitor can try weaving a hand-woven path.

The area is home to a section of the Central Black Earth Nature Reserve named after V.V. Alekhin, Barkalovka. Here, rare plants listed in the Red Book of the Kursk Region can be seen, such as wolfberry, Podolian shiverikia, ephedra, and others.

The residents of the Gorshechensky district take pride in the fact that their land has given the world notable figures: composer and violinist M.G. Erdenko, sculptor I.A. Minin, and poet L.G. Nalivayko.

The museum is visited by about 5000 people annually.
