Christmas Boulevard is a section in the northern part of the Boulevard Ring in Moscow, located on the site of former ramparts that served as the city's boundary and fortress since the late 14th century. The boulevard stretches from west to east, connecting two of Moscow's oldest streets. To the east, it ends at the intersection where Bolshaya Lubyanka transitions into Sretenka, being part of the ancient road from Moscow to Rostov in Northeastern Russia. This road was documented in 1395 with the establishment of the Sretensky Monastery, built in honor of the transfer to Moscow and the solemn reception of the Miraculous Image of the Holy Virgin of Vladimir.

The Karamysheva estate, Tsenkler adjoins the territory of the Sretensky Monastery, suggesting the presence of earlier structures that may be discovered upon examination. The modern construction of the estate began in the 1780s when large-scale restoration works were carried out in Moscow after the Plague Riot of 1771. The estate included a two-story main house and two wings located along the street's red line. This layout is characteristic of the late 18th century, while earlier buildings were typically placed in the center of the estate.

In 1851, the plot was acquired by Joseph Tsenkler, one of the largest Moscow merchants of the mid-19th century and the commercial director of the State Commercial Bank, later transformed into the State Bank of the Russian Empire. The Tsenkler family lived in the main house of the estate, while the wings were rented out. The estate underwent multiple reconstructions. In 1864, the two wings were rebuilt, connected to the main house by passages on the second floor. In 1883, another reconstruction was carried out under the guidance of architect B.V. Freidenberg. Freidenberg, one of the leading architects of Moscow in the 1880s, emulated the architecture of the banking capitals of the world in his works.

During the reconstruction under Freidenberg's guidance, the main house of the Tsenkler estate on Christmas Boulevard received a modest yet original design with elements of 'fortress' architecture of the Italian Renaissance. The cornice crowning the facade of the building rests on an 'arcature belt,' reminiscent of fortress machicolations, openings in the walls for protection during a siege. The building undergoes maintenance repairs and adaptation work for modern use.
