The Gorodets Local History Museum is one of the oldest in the Nizhny Novgorod region. It was founded shortly after the revolution, during a difficult period of change. Initially, the museum's exhibition was located in one of the rooms of the People's House, but since 1920, the museum has become an independent institution and moved to the mansion of merchant I. P. Oblayev.

This local history museum is known as a careful custodian of history, with each exhibit reflecting a piece of its time. Its collection includes unique assemblages that hold scientific and artistic significance at the national level.
