At an altitude of 1234 meters, a view opens up of almost the entire southern coast of Crimea. Mount Ai-Petri is one of the most popular places in Yalta. In summer, it is always crowded with tourists who stay until sunset to enjoy the night lights of the peninsula.

About 230 million years ago, this was the seabed, and Ai-Petri was a huge coral reef. The water began to recede about 2 million years ago, exposing the peaks known as the 'Dragon's Teeth.' Since then, the mountain has retained its current appearance.

The name 'Ai-Petri' translates from Greek as 'Saint Peter.' In the Middle Ages, there was a monastery in the valley with that name, of which only ruins remain.

If you are interested in the history of ancient ancestors, it is worth visiting the famous cave on the mountain. Its entrance consists of three openings, which is how this place got its name. Another name for the cave, Ice, is due to the constantly blue ice-covered underground lake with fresh water. Even in the hottest summer, it is very cold here, and the stalactites remind one of northern lands. Scientists have established that primitive people knew about the cave and used it as a natural refrigerator, storing meat in it during warm weather.

The most convenient way to ascend the mountain is by taking the cable car, the longest in Europe. Its length is 3000 meters. Construction began in 1967, and the first passengers reached the summit in December 1987. Each cabin accommodates about 35 people and moves at a speed of 6-8 meters per second. There are three stations operating year-round, except in March and April, to service the road. The road has its own autonomous power station, which ensures its uninterrupted operation. In just 15 minutes of ascent, you can gain unforgettable impressions that will last a lifetime.
