On May 4, 2020, at the age of 32, Princess Maria Petrovna Golitsyna, married name Singh, suddenly passed away due to an aneurysm rupture. Her death was announced on May 12.

Maria was born on May 11, 1987, in Luxembourg to Prince Peter Dmitrievich Golitsyn and Archduchess Maria Anna of Austria. Prince Peter Dmitrievich was born on March 25, 1955, in Argentina, where his family moved from Yugoslavia after World War II, having left Russia in childhood after the revolution. He studied in Peru and completed his education in New York, where his family relocated.

In 1976, Peter graduated from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology with a degree in mechanical engineering. For the first ten years, he worked as an engineer in various companies, and then began traveling the world, as he jokingly says, "and still can't stop." He worked in Silicon Valley, where he co-founded a company based on new technology with an MIT professor. Later, he opened the European branch of this company and lived in Luxembourg.

After the collapse of the Soviet Union, Peter moved to Russia as a representative of the German company Mannesmann, known for its pipes and metallurgy. He first visited Russia in the spring of 1992, and in August 1993, he moved there with his family, including his wife and six children, and lived there for 16 years. In Moscow, he led the companies BASF and TMK.

Maria Golitsyna married Rishi Singh in 2017, and they lived in Houston, Texas, USA, where her parents and two sisters also reside. In 2018, Maria and Rishi welcomed their son Maxim.

On her father's side, Maria had grandmother Tatiana Petrovna Lopukhina and maternal grandmother Countess Ksenia Sergeevna Chernysheva-Bezobrazova. Among her ancestors over the last five generations were the Vyazemskys, Chertkovs, Ermolovs, Demidovs, Obolenskys, Vasilchikovs, the King of Portugal, the Duke of Parma, Bezobrazovs, Apraxins, Sheremetevs, Shuvalovs, and Vorontsov-Dashkovs.

On her mother's side, Maria Golitsyna was the great-granddaughter of the last Emperor of Austria and King of Hungary, Charles I.
