Russian emigrants of the first wave, as well as their descendants, made a significant contribution to the development of other countries. One such person was Eugene Michael Glukhareff, known in Russia as Evgeny Mikhailovich Glukharev. His family moved to the USA right after the Civil War. Evgeny graduated from the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, earning a degree in aeronautical engineering, and with the support of his father, also an engineer, began working at the well-known company Sikorsky Aircraft.

By the early 1940s, the company was actively engaged in helicopter development, and Evgeny Glukharev became part of this work. He participated in creating new models and developed a vertical takeoff aircraft, which was highly praised by the U.S. Department of Defense and adopted into service. Evgeny's contribution to the U.S. military-industrial complex was significant: he developed a single-seat combat helicopter for the U.S. Navy and proposed using liquefied propane as fuel for light aircraft. Since the 1960s, he worked on unmanned vehicles that later assisted American soldiers.

Later, Glukharev was invited to Douglas Aircraft, where he participated in the development of rocket launchers. He contributed to the creation of the Saturn rockets, which were originally intended for launching reconnaissance satellites but were later used for delivering heavy cargo into orbit. Throughout their operational history, none of these rockets suffered a failure. In his free time, Evgeny worked on creating 'flying motorcycles' and achieved success in this area. Russian land is indeed rich in talent! Evgeny Glukharev passed away in 1994 at the age of 78.
