The street was named Nikoloyamskaya due to the Church of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker, which stood here since the early 17th century and was built by the coachmen of the Rogozhskaya Yamskaya Sloboda. In 1959, the church was destroyed, but its contemporary, the main house of the Skorospelov estate, still stands in its place.
Local historians have always noted the unusual location of the house: it is set deep within the courtyard and sideways to the street, indicating its antiquity. In the middle part of the house, two rooms from the late 17th to early 18th century have been preserved: a white-stone chamber with a brick vault and adjoining halls with an internal staircase to the second floor, of which only fragments of the walls remain.
The building is a "layered cake" of structures from the 17th to the 19th century, as each new owner made changes to its architecture. Significant renovations were made in the mid-18th century by merchant S.P. Vasilyev, who financed the construction of the bell tower of the Andronikov Monastery. Under him, two chambers were added to the right end of the house, and the second floor was likely raised. At that time, the house resembled the neighboring No. 49: a compact cubic volume with a rusticated first floor, baroque window frames and pilasters with carved capitals, as well as a white-stone inter-floor belt and a complex cornice.
Later, the estate passed to merchant P.Y. Pishchalnikov, who replaced the old service buildings with stone wings and redesigned the facade in a classical style. The modern appearance of the house was acquired under merchant A.A. Skorospelov, who in the early 1870s added a grand staircase and vestibule to the left end, as well as installed an iron fence along the street. The interiors preserve traces of numerous alterations: fragments of baroque and pseudo-Gothic window frames, marble fireplaces and window sills, stucco cornices, painted ceilings, and oak doors.
Currently, the building houses the Seismological Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences' Institute of Geoecology.
