At the end of 1941, Kalinin found itself on the front line of defense, where the advance of German troops to the East was halted. In memory of these events, several monuments have been erected in Tver. One of them is located on the northern outskirts of the city, at the intersection of Shishkov Street and Bezhitskoye Highway.

Passing by, just fifty meters from the road, you can see a memorial complex topped with a 122-mm M-30 howitzer, which was produced from 1939 to 1955 and was in service with many countries. At the lower part of the complex, there is a plaque dedicated to the soldiers of the 243rd Rifle Division, who were the first to launch an offensive against the enemy on December 5, 1941.

The monument was erected in 1966 in honor of the 25th anniversary of Kalinin's liberation from Nazi invaders. However, time has not spared it, and now the complex is in unsatisfactory condition.
