The Moscow State Picture Gallery of the People's Artist of the USSR Ilya Glazunov, one of the leading museums in the capital, opened on August 31, 2004, in the historic center of Moscow. The gallery features over 700 works by the world-renowned artist.

Ilya Sergeyevich Glazunov was a full member of the Russian Academy of Arts, an academician, a laureate of the State Prize of the Russian Federation, an honorary member of the Royal Academies of Arts in Madrid and Barcelona, as well as a recipient of the UNESCO award "Gold Medal Picasso" for his contribution to world culture and civilization. He was a full cavalier of the Order "For Services to the Fatherland."

The gallery is unique due to the vast world of images created by the artist in the second half of the 20th and the beginning of the 21st centuries. Here you can see monumental canvases, historical paintings, illustrations for Russian classical literature, numerous portraits, and images from the series "City."

In addition to the paintings and graphic works of Ilya Glazunov, the basement level of the gallery features a new expanded photo exhibition covering important stages of his life and creativity. Some of the photographs have not been published before and are exhibited for the first time. The exhibition reflects events starting from the artist's ancestry. Family, social circle, life challenges, travels across Russia and the world, his famous exhibitions, and recognition by audiences became the foundation of his inspiration. Based on Glazunov's memories and reflections, the historical-autobiographical work "Russia Crucified" was published, along with numerous albums and exhibition catalogs.

He was not only an artist but also an architect, historian, publicist, writer, public figure, founder and rector of the Ilya Glazunov Russian Academy of Painting, Sculpture, and Architecture, as well as the creator of the unique exhibition "Museum of the Estates of Russia."
