In ancient times, the site of the modern sanatorium "Foros" was home to the Genoese fortress Foria, founded in the 5th century BC. The name "Foria" translates from ancient Greek as "duty," indicating the advantageous location of this place. In the late 14th century, Foros is mentioned as a wealthy province of the Captaincy of Gothia, an important customs control point on the way to the sea.

When A.G. Kuznetsov first visited these lands, he carefully studied all the settlements on the southern coast of Crimea, starting from Gurzuf. However, he was particularly attracted to the coastline by the Quiet Bay, between Cape Chekhov and St. Nicholas, known as Foros.

With enthusiasm, Kuznetsov began creating his "ancestral castle" and park. Active work began in Foros in November 1887. Architect Billing had previously presented a sketch of a two-story castle-mansion with a guest house in the style of Italian classicism to Kuznetsov's Moscow office. The main building material was the gray stone from Gaspra. On the second floor of the castle, a gallery with fifteen niches was arranged, where Russian painter Yuliy Klever placed his panels with favorite themes: "Old Park," "Sunset in the Forest," "Landscape by the Bridge," and others.

The terrace under the Atlas cedars was adorned with large cast-iron vases created by Demidov craftsmen. Even 30 years ago, decorative handles and figures of cupids could be seen on the vases, but unfortunately, they were lost due to the actions of treasure hunters.

Inside the palace, the staircase made of Carrara marble is decorated with ornamental railings crafted by Ural masters. The rooms are arranged in a suite, and the music hall still retains the parquet laid by Roman craftsmen.

However, the main success of Kuznetsov's project was the park created by botanist Edward Albrecht from the Nikitsky Botanical Garden. Together with artist Yuliy Klever, he redesigned and replanted the park, originally laid out by General Raevsky Sr. from local groves of juniper, oak, ash, and maple. More than 200 species of trees and shrubs have taken root here, including sequoias, Greek firs, palms, oleanders, cedars, cypresses, and magnolias.

Kuznetsov's residence in Foros became a unique ensemble of architecture, painting, and landscape park. In our time, the sanatorium "Foros" was located here, with its conference hall and library situated in the palace itself. The organization "Federation of Trade Unions of the Republic of Tatarstan" acquired the property complex of the sanatorium for 1.5 billion rubles, and everything returned to its original state.
