Fedorovsky Geological Museum in Krasnoturinsk

Фото 1
The Fedorovsky Geological Museum carefully preserves the atmosphere of the late 19th century, when under the guidance of the outstanding crystallographer Yevgraf Stepanovich Fyodorov, geologists studied the natural resources of our region. In the center of the hall stands a large meeting table, surrounded by cabinets that hold tens of thousands of samples of minerals, rocks, and ores. The furniture for the museum was custom-made by Fyodorov and Stratanovich at the local workshop of A. M. Ponomarev.

From this hall, a massive fireproof door leads to the archive room, where over 3,500 maps, plans, sections, diaries, and notes from the time of geological research are collected in 394 tablets. Here, there is also a rich library of the museum with books, journals, and reference materials on natural sciences and history.

The memory of the museum's founder is immortalized in a memorial office, where his personal furniture, special devices and tools for studying minerals, as well as microscopes and stereographic rulers are displayed.

Particular attention in the museum is given to N. A. Karzhavin, who made the outstanding discovery of the 20th century, the Bogoslovsko-Petropavlovsk bauxite province and the deposit "Krasnaya Shapochka."

The museum halls showcase unique collections of Ural gemstones, rare crystals, and unusual minerals, as well as the best samples of ore and non-ore minerals from the region. The mineralogical collection is complemented by products made from semi-precious stones, and part of the exhibition is dedicated to paleontological finds.

Throughout the years, the museum not only preserves the history of 19th-century geology but also evolves. A unique chemical laboratory has been recreated here, as well as a "grinding and core storage" where senior grinding master Ivan Petrovich Tumashov worked.

The main thing in the museum is the feeling of the presence of its founders and staff: Auerbach, Fyodorov, Nikitin, and Stratanovich.
